Blog Prompt #1
Discuss how you feel about being a college student taking a Technical Writing class. How do you feel? Why are you taking the course? What are your feelings after two days of class? Is the class what you thought it would be?
Although I am in college on paper, my specific degree doesn't really have the same feel as a normal associates degree. The ThinkBIG program is a technical education program that focuses more on hands-on style learning instead of classroom focused learning. It is a special degree that is offered by the Caterpillar dealership Empire through MCC. I never imagined myself enrolling in a college when I was younger, as I always envisioned myself in a more hands-on career field like a trade. This program offered me a fine balance between both worlds, where I still can enjoy working and learning with my hands at the same time as applying myself to the more formal education setting for other classes. I feel this writing class will help me much more in terms of career-specific applications compared to ENG101. That class does provide a great foundation in writing skills, however most of them really are outside the scope of anything I may find myself needing to use. I am also much more comfortable with the work load and style of assignment submissions compared to before. Having more flexibility to do the assignments throughout the week instead of turning multiple things in every day or two will really ease the stress-load I had before. This will give me more time to work as well, as my monetary concerns are much more prevalent this semester. I am really taking this course primarily because it is a required class if I am honest. I do think I will develop some useful skills from it however. So far the class has lived up to my expectations, I know I need to make sure to prioritize adding in extra time during the week to get a start on the assignments, but so far it has worked out. I am looking forward to this class and the skills I will take away from it.
